We all know how fresh cut flowers or a flowering plant can make a room look more alive, but it can get expensive to purchase flowers every week!
Another way that you can bring that feeling to a room is with stenciling. It can change a plain room and give it a fast and easy facelift! I chose to stencil in my dining room. It seems to me dining rooms are more limited in their decorating options. Most people have a table in the center of the room, chairs arranged around the table, and either a hutch or sideboard of some kind. Same boring look.
I decided to jazz it up a little. I painted the walls a medium sage green. The ceiling and trim I left white. I like the clean, uncomplicated look of a two color scheme. I then purchased a tulip stencil at a local craft store. There are hundreds of patterns online also. I decided to situate them just above the baseboards all around the room. I stenciled them in white also. The tulip is about 10" high and I put them 6" apart. I have received a lot of compliments on this idea because it is different and adds interest to the room.
You can choose from so many variations of this to give any room your personal touch. Perhaps you'd like a feature wall in your living room or bedroom.
